Questions about player development (2)
Hello!
Maybe I missed some information about player skills/attributes, but I'll just post some questions:
1. How does the POT system works? I would think POT means the potential of a player. Like in FM I would expect young players starting at 2 or something with the potential to grow to 4, 4,5 or 5 (or not).
2. Can player attributes be maxed?
3. What determines if some players (more talented) will grow faster than other players (less talented)? Do they gain experience faster?
4. Are there others ways of gaining experience than playing league matches? If I have a young player with low skills, but high potential I'm a bit hesitant to let them play (and risk losing matches).
What are your thoughts and ideas on this topic?
Hey! Good questions, happy to clear this up.
1. What POT actually is
Potential (POT) isn't a fixed "roll" a player has to hit, and it's not a hidden scouted range like FM's stars either. It's a plain number, visible on the profile from day one, that scales how much XP a player earns from playing (and from the passive trickle, see below). A high-POT player earns noticeably more XP from the same activity than a low-POT one. Think "how fast they're capable of climbing", not "the ceiling they're allowed to reach."
2. Can attributes be maxed?
Yes, every trainable attribute caps at 110. The final stretch from 100 up costs a lot more XP than the climb below it, so a genuinely maxed stat is a real long-term investment, not something you'll stumble into by accident.
3. Do more talented players grow faster?
Yes, through XP income specifically. A high-POT player banks XP faster from identical activity, so they hit their next training point sooner. The training cost itself is the same curve for everyone at a given attribute value. A Training Complex adds real weight on top of that too, up to +75% XP at max level.
4. Other ways to gain XP, and playing young players
XP comes from more than just starting XI league minutes:
Cup matches (Domestic Cup and Elite Champions Cup) award XP too, at half a league match's rate.
Getting subbed on or off isn't all-or-nothing. XP is proportional to the actual minutes you play, so a late cameo off the bench still earns something real.
Every player also earns a small passive trickle of XP automatically, roughly a full league match's worth spread across each real day, whether they play or not. It ticks quietly in the background, no action needed.
So don't be afraid to ease a promising kid in carefully. They keep developing passively either way, and any minutes you do give them (even a late sub appearance) are a bonus on top, not the only path to growth.
