Scouting & Youth Development
The open transfer market isn't the only way players find their way to your club. Goal Legends has two separate systems for that: scout missions you send out yourself, and youth prospects your club produces on its own clock. They work differently and answer different questions, and it's worth knowing which is which.
Sending out a scout mission
Scouting happens through the Scout Centre, one of the seven facilities covered in Club Facilities Explained and, like every facility there, one you can invest in and raise over time rather than something fixed for the life of the club.
From the Scout Centre you dispatch a scout mission, and you can narrow what it looks for before you send it out: an age range, a position, a minimum overall rating and/or a minimum potential, and a minimum threshold on an individual attribute. None of those filters are required, you can send a mission out wide open with nothing specified and see what comes back.
A mission takes real time to complete rather than resolving instantly, and once it does, it returns one or more results for you to look through. Each result is a player profile you can then act on however you like, including reaching out with a private offer if they're owned by another human manager.
Recalling a mission
A mission already underway can be recalled before it finishes. Worth knowing before you do it: the fee you paid to send the scout out in the first place isn't refunded just because you called them back early. Recalling stops the mission, it doesn't undo the cost of starting it in the first place.
That makes a mission's filters worth setting deliberately before you send it, rather than something you tune on the fly. Once it's running, changing your mind about what you wanted from it costs you the fee either way, whether you let it finish or pull it back early.
Youth prospects: a preview before they exist
Youth development runs on a completely separate track from scouting, with no scout mission or Scout Centre involved. One real day into every season, your club's youth pipeline generates a prospect on its own, without you asking for one.
What makes this different from scouting is that the preview is complete and immediate. You see the prospect's name, age, nationality, position, their full set of attributes, and their potential, all at once and well ahead of time, rather than a partial picture that fills in gradually.
That prospect isn't a playable member of your squad the moment you see them. They sit as a pending addition to the club until the start of the following season, at which point they're promoted into a real, selectable player alongside everyone else already on your books.
Two pipelines, one squad
Scouting and youth development don't compete with each other, and neither replaces simply buying on the transfer market. A scout mission is something you actively send out, aimed at whatever criteria you set, and it can turn up a player at any club, human or AI-owned. The youth pipeline runs on its own fixed schedule, once a season, and only ever produces a player for your own club specifically.
They're three separate ways players end up on your books, running side by side rather than one replacing another, and which of them you lean on in a given season is entirely up to how you want to build the club.
